Sharada Polavarapu, Senior Associate

Sharada Polavarapu is a Senior Associate at TLM Associates. She offers government relations services to clients in corporate, technology, and non-profit sectors. Previously, Sharada worked for then-NYC Council Member Bill de Blasio, and was the political director at the NYC Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO.

Sharada began working for now-Mayor Bill de Blasio in 2005, managing the Council Member’s schedule and operations out of his city hall office. In 2006, Sharada served as the Council Member’s legislative director, taking on responsibilities in the areas of policy, legislation, land use, and budget.

From 2007 to 2011, Sharada worked at the NYC Central Labor Council (CLC), a membership organization that represents over 300 unions in NYC, including 1.3 million workers in the public sector, private sector, and building and construction trades. During this time, Sharada organized local support for legislative initiatives including on national health care reform and state unemployment insurance reform. She also had a pivotal role in driving labor’s efforts to advance paid sick time legislation in NYC. Sharada managed several electoral field programs, including the successful AFL-CIO member-to-member campaign to elect Michael McMahon to Congress in a highly competitive congressional district in 2008. This was the first such program to be implemented in NYC and has since been replicated in other CLC campaigns.

Sharada received a Masters degree from Hunter College, CUNY, in Urban Affairs and a Bachelors degree from American University in History.
